Trip Description | We’ll sneak up on Sand Lake and Deer Lake via a less commonly used trail. The trailhead is located off FR-1284 (this forest road is a popular snowshoe area in winter). We’ll pass Cortright Point (at 5,765 elevation) enroute to Sand Lake. There is no trail to the top of Cortright Point, but hikers have been known to scramble the 200 feet to the top for good views. Perhaps some of us will?
I have seen photos of wildflowers taken in late June/early July along this route so we might get lucky! Also, the stretch of trail between Sand Lake and Deer Lake is along the PCT so we may encounter a few hikers/backpackers. We’ll find a good lunch/break spot at one of the lakes or somewhere along the trail with Deer Lake being our turn around point. PHOTO CREDIT: AllTrails user Ryan Broom |
