| Trip Description | The American Lake Trail is a scenic backpacking trip that follows a portion of the Pacific Crest Trail through forests, wildflower meadows, alpine lakes, and open ridges with spectacular views of Nelson Ridge and Mount Rainier. Beginning at Chinook Pass, the trail climbs steadily before reaching beautiful American Lake. Late August to early September is one of the best times to visit, as recommended by experienced hikers and Washington Trails Association trip reports. During this time, mosquitoes are typically much less active, and huckleberries and blueberries are often at their peak. |
