Trip Description | The North Fork Entiat River watershed offers lovely walking along the Chelan Mountains, sampling larch-studded basins below granite peaks. This is a four-day trip, making the four drive worth the time and carbon emissions.
We’ll camp the first night at Fern Lake junction, in a splendid trail crew camp on the river, after gaining 1500’ in six miles of walking. On the second day, we’ll gain 1400’ rather steeply in two miles to a camp at 6600’ elevation in a lovely alpine garden surrounded by larches; there will be an option to day hike two miles through meadows and larches to 7500’ Saska Pass. On day three, we’ll gain 1000’ in 3.3 miles traversing Cardinal Peak to Buck Camp, featuring a large table and benches around a fireplace, also at 6600’. The fourth day is an easy descent to the trailhead in six miles, and the drive home. This is not wilderness, so mountain bikes might be encountered. |
