Spectacle Lake Loop PCT (BP-4)
September 29 – October 1
Trip Leader: Jay Reinhardt
27 miles, fairly strenuous
Sparkling mountain lakes, craggy granite spires, spectacular views. On this trip we will travel through one of the most scenic sections of the PCT in the Central Cascades, spending much of our time on the Pacific Crest Trail (PCT) in Alpine Lakes National Wilderness. Expect perfect hiking temperatures during the day, and cold nights.
Day 1: Leave Spudnuts in Richland at 7 AM for a three-hour drive to Pete Lake Trailhead. Folks from Seattle have a two-hour drive to reach the Trailhead. After a one-hour car shuttle with Mineral Creek Trailhead and lunch we’ll hike 7.5 miles and 3,300’ up to Spectacle Lake on the PCT where we’ll camp and have dinner.
Day 2: Hike 12 miles, up 3,000’ and down 4,000’ though one of the most scenic sections of the PCT to our campsite on the flanks of Escondido Point. If it is a clear day the views will be spectacular.
Day 3: Hike 8.5 miles and 2,800 down. Lakeside lunch at Pete Lake then on to our cars at Pete Lake Trailhead. Head home to the Tri-Cities in time for a late dinner.
Driving distance round trip is 300 miles, about 3.5 hours each way. Carpool passengers pay $36 per person for gas, etc.
