This is an out-and-back hike in the Wenaha-Tucannon Wilderness area south of the Bluewood ski area – 8 miles RT with about 800 feet gain plus some ups and downs. We will start at a trailhead just off the Kendall Skyline Road. We will hike on a ridge top for about 4 miles and turn around before the trail descends steeply to Wenaha River. On a clear day, we should have nice views of adjacent canyon rims and the Wallowa Mountains. Bring along the Ten Essentials, lunch, and 2-3 liters of water.  Be prepared for sun, rain, snow, and cold winds.  The trip is limited to 12 hikers (due to wilderness area restrictions). All participants will be vetted by the leader. As of this writing (mid-May), there is about 6-8 feet of snow on the ground. If there is still some significant snow on the Sawtooth Trail by mid-June, alternate locations will be considered.
