PCT-White Pass/Snowgrass Flats, BP-2
Jay Reinhardt, 509-521-5956, email@example.com
Enjoy one of the most scenic stretches of the Pacific Crest Trail, including McCall Basin, the Knife’s Edge, and Old Snowy. The trip is 25 miles, fairly strenuous. If we have enough people and I-MAC trip leaders, this hike will split into two groups which will start from opposite ends and exchange keys in the middle. Otherwise we will allow three extra hours for a car shuttle, or switch to the comparable Walupt Lake / Goat Lake loop in the same area.
Day 1: Leave Spudnuts in Richland at 8 AM. Arrive at the White Pass Trailhead of the PCT about noon for lunch. Hike 5.1 miles and 1,800’ to Hogsback Ridge and camp for dinner.
Day 2: Hike 7.2 miles and -1,000’ to McCall Basin. Highlights: Shoe Lake, lunch at Hidden Springs, meadows of McCall Basin.
Day 3: Hike 8 miles and 2,800’ to Snowgrass Flats. This is the most strenuous and most scenic day. Highlights: Knife’s Edge thrills and panoramic views from Old Snowy.
Day 4: Hike 5.1 miles and -1,800’ to the Snowgrass Flats trailhead. Drive back to the Tri-Cities for a late dinner at home.
COVID- 19: We will follow the social distancing guidelines in effect at the time of the trip. Regardless of those guidelines, individuals wishing for more stringent protection are welcome to drive themselves and camp in their own tent. Note that If it is necessary to shuttle cars there will be a 90 minute period of carpooling, so during that period everyone must be willing to wear a mask.
