Sand Lake Loop, DH-2

George Meriwether, george@ghmworld.net

NOTE: This trip was rescheduled due to weather.

Due to multiple fires and closures in the Umatilla National Forest, the hike was moved from Nine Mile Ridge to Sand Lake Loop. This is a moderate loop hike in the White Pass area.  The hike will be about 9-10 miles RT with about 1500-feet elevation gain (plus some ups and downs).  We will start at a ski parking area near the PCT trailheads, and hike north on the PCT to Deer and Sand Lakes (2.8 miles). Then, hike on the Sand Lake trail (#60) for 2.8 miles to the NF road 1284 (aka Yellowjacket Road).  Then, we will hike on the NF road for about 3 miles to Hwy. 12, and about 1.5 miles along Hwy. 12 to the cars. We will hike at a moderate pace (about 1.5 – 2 mph).  Bring along the Ten Essentials, lunch, and 2-3 liters of water.  Be prepared for sun, rain, and cold winds.  Due to the wilderness restrictions, the trip is limited to 12 hikers. All participants will be vetted by the leader.

Signup deadline is Wednesday, September 22 at 8:00pm. Transportation cost is $25.
