Leader: Jim Langdon, 509-940-7234 (no text)
Drive: 200 miles round trip
Cost: About $32 (share of mileage and snow park permit)
Meet: 7:00 AM in the parking lot near the Spudnut Shop in Richland
Sign-up: By 9 PM Thursday, January 5th. Best to reserve rental skis by
Wednesday night.
All skier levels are invited, but this is an instructional trip aimed for
Cross Country first-timers and beginners. The rest of you can come along to
brush up on your skills or just to get started for the season. We will
spend the morning on instructions for the basic techniques for cross-country
ski touring. After a lunch out in the snow, we will do an easy tour to
practice what was learned in the morning.
Sno-park permits are required for drivers at the Andies Prairie Sno-Park.
We should get there about 9:30 AM and return to our cars by about 3:30 PM.
Bring lunch and snacks, plenty of water and two pair of mittens/gloves so
you can change them when the first pair gets wet. We won’t be quite as
active as on a regular trip so dress a little warm. Since this is a
beginners lesson, everyone will be spending a little time in the snow. Your
outer layer should shed snow easily and waterproof /breathable would be
best. Avoid cotton, even in your base layers. It is recommended that a
change of clothes be brought for the trip home. These will be left in the
car. Advance sign-up is required because the trip may need to be
rescheduled depending on snow conditions or if the weather is bad.
