Box Spring Canyon, DH-2

George Meriwether

[NOTE: Location was changed as the Bear Canyon trail is impassable due to lack of maintenance, downed trees, and heavy vegetation overgrowth.] This is an out-and-back hike on a section of William O. Douglas Trail west of Snow Mountain Ranch area near Yakima – 9 miles RT with about 900 feet gain. We will start at the Snow Mountain Ranch parking lot and hike about 0.7 mile to a game fence gate. Then, it is about 3.8 miles in open country to the Box Spring Canyon. We will have lunch at the headwater of the canyon, and then hike back to the cars. There should be a lot of wildflowers along the way. Bring along the Ten Essentials, lunch, and 2-3 liters of water.  We will hike at a moderate pace. Be prepared for sun, rain, and cold winds.  The trip is limited to 12 hikers. All participants will be vetted by the leader.
