SUMMARY:Moonrise Hike at Badger Mountain (Night Hike -1)
DESCRIPTION:\n\n\nTrip Name\nMoonrise Hike at Badger Mountain\n\n\nTrip Start Date\nMay 30, 2026\n\n\nType of Trip\nOther\n\n\nRating\nNight Hike – 1\n\n\nLeader Name\nTobias Hagge\n\n\nLeader Email\ntobiashagge@gmail.com\n\n\nRoundtrip Drive Mileage\n0\n\n\nCarpooling Cost\n0\n\n\nAdditional Fees\n0\n\n\nTrailhead Name\nBadger Mountain Trailhead\n\n\nLatitude/Longitude\n46.2384, -119.3064\n\n\nTrip Description\nPlease join Runners of the Sage and IMAC for this at-your-own-pace hike and moonrise viewing at the Badger Mountain summit (i.e. the overlook at the top of the Badger Canyon Trail). This is a great place to watch the moon rise; it rises over the Blue Mountains with an unobstructed view. This event occurs the day BEFORE the full moon, the reason being that sunset (8:41) and moonrise(8:46) happen within five minutes of each other, providing an opportunity to see both in short succession.\nA treat will be provided at sunset at the Canyon Trail summit. There will be a group departing at 8:00 PM at the sign at the Badger Canyon Trailhead (the East trailhead, at Trailhead Park) for those who wish to travel in a group. From there, hikers will hike 1.25 miles up the Canyon trail, an elevation gain of 800 feet. Runners (other than the most ambitious ones) will turn left at the top of the stairs onto the sagebrush trail, follow it until it becomes the Skyline trail, turn left just shy of the ridge, and reach the same destination in 2 miles. From there, you can return to the base or take a longer hike on the mountain. Though the moon will provide some light, the trails are uneven in places and it is recommended to bring a headlamp if hiking or running after dark. You can also start from the West entrance, a hike of about 2.25 miles. No group start is organized for this, however.\nSnacks will be provided at the summit at moonrise. Please dress for the weather, paying attention to the temperature drop after sunset. We will cancel in the event of rain. Check the RotS or IMAC Facebook page if you are unsure of cancellation status.\nThis is an at your own pace hike. No registration is required.\n\n\nApproximate Mileage\n2.5/4.0\n\n\nElevation Gain\n800\n\n\nDeparture Time\n8:00 PM\n\n\nSign up by\nReservation is Not Required\n\n\n\nEach participant is responsible for their own safety and being prepared. Planning ( https://www.nps.gov/orgs/1207/plan-like-a-park-ranger.htm ) and preparation start with the 10 Essentials ( #ten-essentials-popup ) and staying up-to-date on road and trail conditions, permit requirements, party size limits, snowpack, wildfires, and weather.\nVisit the activity classification page ( #activity-classification-popup )  for detailed information on difficulty rating for I-MAC trip so you can sign up for activities that best match your fitness and comfort levels.\nVisit TRIP COSTS & PASSES ( #trip-costs-passes-popup ) for detailed information about trip costs.\nTo help protect and care for these special places that we enjoy exploring, I-MAC members always practice Leave No Trace ( https://lnt.org ) and follow the 7 Principles of Leave No Trace ( https://lnt.org/why/7-principles/ ). Ask your trip leader if you have questions about Leave No Trace or suggestions for helping to reduce our footprint.\n
