  1. Extra clothing for warmth (wool or synthetic pile) and rain protection. Severe storms and freezing weather can occur suddenly, even in summer
  2. Extra food for an unexpected bivouac.
  3. Drinking water.
  4. Sunglasses and sunscreen.
  5. Pocket knife.
  6. Matches (or butane lighter) and fire starter.
  7. First aid kit (what you bring is all you can count on).
  8. Flashlight with spare batteries and bulbs.
  9. Map of the area.
  10. Compass with straight edge.
